On Wednesday, when I saw the schedual and noticed that Jack schedualed me Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I wrote him a nice note pretending I didn't see the schedual. All it said was, "Don't forget, I start school on the 25th and can only work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays." and then signed my name.
I went in today to get my check and check my schedual. He schedualed me Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
I went back into the office and said, "Jack I start school this week and you schedualed me to work." And now, the drama of "Tracy and Jack" brought to you in vivid technicolor:
Jack: "I could have sworn I gave you Thursday off."
Me: "You did, but I have school Monday through Thursday."
Jack: "You told me you needed Thursdays off."
Me: "No, I said Monday through Thursday."
Jack: "Let me see it."
(I take the schedual to Jack.)
Jack: "So, you can't work at all this week?"
(I had asked off Friday morning (only) for a test I need to take to get out of keyboarding. And I had asked off Saturday for a wedding for my friend since Kindergaten. I had okayed both of these with Jack on Monday.)
Me: No. I can work Sunday and Friday night (which he didn't schedual me for). I told you this coming week was going to be a pain because of the wedding on Saturday.
Jack: But you only asked off for the whole weekend.
Me: (Getting angry) No. I asked off for Friday morning but said I wanted to work that night. I have to take this test so I can get out of a class.
Jack: So you can't work at all durning the week?
Me: I can only work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
Jack: You can't work nights??
Me: No.
Jack: You have night classes?
Me: No. My classes get out around 3:45.
Jack: Then why can't you work nights?
Me: 'Cause I have homework and stuff.
Jack: Then why did you only ask off for Thursdays?
Me: I DID'T JACK! If you get out the sheet of paper I wrote it on, I'll show you.
(Jack rumages throught the request off forms and pulls out the one asking off for Friday morning. On which I wrote in all caps and largely that I wanted to work that night.)
Me: (Pointing) See, I even wrote it in large letters.
Jack: This has nothing about the week.
Me: No, I wrote that on another paper. It was on notebook paper.
(Jack searches some more but can't find it.)
Jack: So, you can't work during the week.
Me: Correct.
Jack: (Getting angry, almost yelling.) Well, what do you want me to do?? (Sounding dejected) I'll have to figure something out.
(At this point, I storm out of the office, on the verge of tears and plenty pissed.)
I don't know what's going to happen at work now. I'm going in tomorrow at 2 for my shift and I'll see if Jack fixed it (I don't think he works tomorrow), and if he didn't? I don't know.
I know I can't go in on Monday...or any of those days. And I know I'll have to call in or I'll be a no call no show. But, if I have too many call ins for days he's schedualed me he could very well fire me.
I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself...but I'm starting to worry about what will happen if I *do* lose my job.
I guess I cross that bridge when (or if) I get there.
